Why did I receive communications from a candidate even though I made my donation through Oath, and how can I make sure it doesn’t happen again?

Oath has a strict policy prohibiting campaigns from contacting Oath donors, which we share with candidates before adding them to our platform. Per our privacy policy, we never share your personal contact information, such as email and phone number. Oath only shares the legally required information directed by the relevant campaign finance authority (e.g., FEC), which may include name, address, and employer.

If you’ve received campaign communications, please contact us. We’ll follow up with the campaign to make sure our policy is followed going forward. Note that many campaigns purchase large data sets you could be part of, so a general communication may be unrelated to your donation.

Even so, we’ll still flag the issue.
