# Why do I have a $1 charge from DemEng?

Oath uses Democracy Engine (DemEng) as a payment processing partner to ensure donations are securely disbursed to recipients on time.

For first-time donors, there’s sometimes a temporary $1 charge to verify your credit card. It should appear as “pending” and will be removed from your card within 1 to 2 business days.
